Coromandel I
India is without a
doubt the birthplace of european textile printing. The first
examples were probably brought to Europe during the 15th
century, but it was not until the 17th century that the first
brightly colored calico cloths reached europe. The original of
"coromandel" is an indian hand painted and printed wood block
print. Typical in its use of two dimensional graphic imagery
and delicate colors this represents perfectly these first
Indian prints.
